Letter P.A.L.S. is a FREE online K-3rd grade school-to-home reading
program, which is offered during Fall and Winter Sessions. Each session
is 8 weeks in length. The Winter Session begins on January 22, 2007, and the Fall Session begins on October 1, 2007. Letter P.A.L.S. was created to provide a
dynamic way to help teachers, parents, and guardians motivate children to become
strong readers.
Each session of the Letter P.A.L.S. school-to-home reading program
consists of 8 different online Pet Shop Pen Pals letters, which are
delivered one at a time on Mondays of each week over a 8-week session period,
at the Readers Are Winners web site. Every weekly letter is personalized with
each child's name, is three pages in length, professionally written, beautifully
illustrated, and reviewed by reading specialists for use in a shared/guided
reading environment. You can learn more about the Pet Shop Pen Pals by clicking
on the Pet Shop Pen Pals section.
Every Monday during the 8-week session, a personalized letter will
be waiting for your child. When you are done reading each three-page
letter, there will be a fourth page called "Parents Paws for Reading."
It includes specific questions and answers for each specific letter and is intended
to bring the most meaning to each letter. Ask the questions, go over the answers,
and click on the Readers are Winners button. This will electronically tell your
teacher that you read the weekly letter and place a small paw print on the teacher's
classroom Paws
for Reading Chart by your child's name for that week.
